Creation of a new warehouse complex in South East Queensland has brought together key companies, techniques and building products.
The Insight Logistics Park complex at Stapylton between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is an eight hectare site housing two 20,000 square metre warehouses, large enough to allow easy access for B Double trucks.
Internal clearances start at over 10 metres, allowing efficient storage of over 70,000 pallets in the twin buildings which each have eight metre wide and 300 metre long awnings.
The facility was established as a design and construction project by McNab Constructions, one of Queensland's leading private construction and property development companies.
The effectiveness of the buildings' 68 metre clear span is maximised by outer portal columns positioned externally to provide 20 per cent more volumetric space than a standard warehouse facility.
Framing was handled by Rimco Building Systems, a specialist and innovator in the design, manufacture and installation of structural steel for large portal frame buildings. Rimco also fixed 231 tonnes of LYSAGHT SUPAZED® purlins as part of the roof framing package.
"One of the reasons we adopted the SUPAZED® purlins was that their strength allowed us to maximise the size of the buildings' bays to make construction as economical as possible for the client," Rimco's Charl Russell said
"They provide better load carrying capacity than conventional purlins and they are just as easy to install. In fact, even though this is one of the largest jobs Rimco has tackled, we completed our work almost three weeks ahead of schedule."
BlueScope Lysaght personnel worked closely with the project manager to determine the sequence of erection, then produced, bundled and delivered the SUPAZED® purlins to suit the identified construction zones.
Fixing of the 48,000 square metres of 0.48 BMT LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® profiled ZINCALUME® steel for the twin roofs was carried out by Daikov Project Roofing, a company which has made a name for itself on projects throughout South East Queensland in recent years.
Daikov Project Roofing directors, Tony Davis and Daniel Kilov, said the job, which was one of the biggest they had handled, had gone very well.
"We've had excellent cooperation from BlueScope Lysaght, especially in scheduling deliveries to suit the building program," they said. "With that type of reliability we're likely to reach agreement for them to become our sole supplier."
One of the advantages of working with the LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® profile with its clip fixing system was that it is "finished as you go", according to the Daikov Project Roofing directors.
"You don't have to go back over it to screw it down and you don't have swarf problems and the surface rust that can follow," Daniel Kilov said. "Even not having to blow the roof at the end of each day is a time saver.
"It's a finished product once you've laid it and that's what a roofer wants. To be successful you need to get in and out quickly. Part of that comes down to the skill of your crew and what's going on with the rest of the building program," Tony Davis said, "but the performance of your roof cladding supplier also has an impact."
"When you're tackling the big jobs your reputation is at stake. That's why we've been glad to have BlueScope Lysaght's help at Insight Logistics Park."
For the Insight Logistics Park project BlueScope Lysaght delivered bulk loads to Daikov Project Roofing's exact bundling and arrangement on load specification, with up to four trailers delivering as much as 6,500 square metres of roofing in one day.
This helped to dramatically reduce crane hire and set-up costs at the construction site and involved pre-delivery site inspections carried out by BlueScope Lysaght in conjunction with McNab Constructions and Daikov Project Roofing to ensure the process went smoothly.
