LYSAGHT® roof and wall cladding profiles are part of a cost effective building solution for a major distribution centre in Brisbane's south west. Melbourne based Salta Constructions is building the 43,000 square metre facility for retailer Coles Myer.
Salta is one of the country's largest privately owned, multi disciplinary property companies involved in the development, construction and management of industrial, commercial, retail and residential properties across Australia.
It delivers a complete package including the design and construction of the base building and the design and construction of the building's internal fitout. The new Coles Myer regional distribution centre at Heathwood consists of two warehouse buildings joined by a 30 metre wide, covered truck loading bay.
Experienced contractor Northside Roofing is fixing 36,000 square metres of LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® and 14,000 square metres of LYSAGHT SPANRIB® cladding. Northside Roofing owner, Phil Beveridge, said the project was one of the largest his company had tackled.
"We have mainly worked on projects in the Brisbane region, but we have also completed jobs in Canberra, Rockhampton and the Qantas museum at Longreach," he said.
"I've previously sourced roofing from other suppliers, but lately BlueScope Lysaght has been extremely competitive and LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® and LYSAGHT SPANRIB® are good to work with. The job's going really well. We're completing roughly 7,000 square metres of cladding each week. We just ring BlueScope Lysaght a week in advance and they deliver whatever quantity we need in plenty of time."
A major factor in the smooth progress of the roofing task is the professionalism of the Northside Roofing crew.
"I have a very stable workforce," Phil Beveridge said. "Many of them have been with me for 15 years and in that time we've introduced some innovative methods to deliver a quality roofing job in good time. The system we use also helps keep the costs at bay. This is something you can achieve when you train your own guys. It's no good trying to buy experience from the newspaper job ads."
Despite Northside Roofing's experience, each job still presents its own unique challenges.
"These buildings are 120 metres wide with 60 metres from ridge to gutter," Phil Beveridge said. "Just getting the cladding packs up into position with a crane is a challenge in itself, but the LYSAGHT® sheets, which are 20 metres long, are standing up to the handling."
Each building's roof consists of a 20 metre length of LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® from the ridge to an expansion joint and then a second 20 metre length of TRIMDEK® before another expansion joint where stepped purlins overlap to simplify the switch to the lowest run, which is clad in SPANRIB®.
"The 14,000 square metres of LYSAGHT SPANRIB® cladding have provided the rainwater handling solution which Salta needed to deal with the run off from the LYSAGHT TRIMDEK®," Phil Beveridge said.
Both LYSAGHT® profiles provide cost effective cladding, particularly for large projects. The Coles Myer distribution centre solution chosen by Salta Constructions combined their best properties. LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® is also used to clad the three degree pitch of the 3,000 square metre truck loading bay.
The LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® profile has subtle square fluting in the pans to provide strength and long spanning capabilities. It is widely used to provide economical wall and roof cladding for industrial and commercial applications. A special anti-capillary groove in the side lap allows use on roof pitches as low as 2° (1 in 30). Wide support spacings can be used with safety, due to the strength, lightness and rigidity of LYSAGHT TRIMDEK®.
LYSAGHT SPANRIB® is ideally suited for large roofing applications where excellent rainwater carrying capacity is crucial. Its profile also provides an attractive result when used with other LYSAGHT® profiles such as LYSAGHT TRIMDEK®.
SPANRIB® cladding was developed by BlueScope Lysaght specifically for the Queensland market and Queensland weather conditions. Like LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® it provides the benefits of long spanning, pierced-fix cladding, with excellent rainwater carrying capacity. For commercial and industrial applications where long span and fast installation are major requirements, LYSAGHT SPANRIB® cladding is winning increasing popularity.
Like LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® it features a special anti-capillary groove in the side lap, to allow use on roof pitches as low as 1 degree. Each 820mm wide sheet requires only three fasteners per support for roofing and walling applications.
