This contemporary, energy and water efficient house achieves the elusive "wow" factor on many levels. Namely the aspect is orientated to capture the expansive ocean views, providing an element of serenity and entertainment for guests. However, this house differentiates itself from the norm by featuring an outdoor 25 metre outdoor lap pool and an underground sound proof music room.

When observing the house from the front it appears to be a single storey dwelling. The Building Designer, Peter Downes Designs, took advantage of the sloping site by keeping the roof level low from the street and preserving the existing views. This low level pitch could only be achieved using roofing made from COLORBOND® Ultra steel due to its flexibility and ease of use.

The design of the house also maximises, in all aspects, the position of the house. The ship-like bough at the southern end of the residence and the zig-zag shape on the western side orients the building to the beach and ridge views, increasing the grandeur of the setting. To create a natural look and blend into the surrounding environment, roofing made from COLORBOND® Ultra steel in the colour Woodland Grey® and in the profile LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® was used to achieve the dramatic, but functional roof line.

Entering into the house and stepping up to the top level, the open plan living room creates a great dynamic for the family and an ideal entertaining spot. This room achieves the perfect all year round balance, being south facing, it captures the winter sun to fill the room with warmth, and opens up in summer to allow for breezes to blow through and cool the space.

The Wallich House invites people to see the difference and attraction of coastal living. The ocean setting provides expansive views, perfect for the modern family home.
