Stunning architecture again tops LYSAGHT Inspirations Design Awards winner’s list

The creativity and vision of Australia’s leading architects and designers has again come to the fore in this year’s prestigious Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards, an initiative that recognises outstanding Australian architectural work incorporating LYSAGHT® steel building products.

The awards, now in their third year, were open to Australian-based architects, building designers, and architectural or design students, and sought nominations in four main categories: Commercial and Industrial, Regional Projects, Residential and Student Design.

Each category winner received a $10,000 cash prize, while the successful Student Design award recipient received a $5,000 cash prize. The work of all four winners will also be featured in the next edition of Lysaght’s Design Inspiration publication.

The respective category winners are:

• Commercial and Industrial – ‘Goodna State School grade prep and one building’ by arkLAB Architecture incorporating CUSTOM ORB®, LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® and WEATHERLINE®

• Regional Projects – ‘Mercy College Mackay Library’ by Bold Architecture + Interior Design incorporating LYSAGHT ENSEAM® and TRIMDEK®

• Residential – ‘Blue Wren’ by Get Smart Constructions utilising LYSAGHT TRIMDEK® and KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH®

• Student Design – Chatterbox House by Sandra C, Granville TAFE utilising LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®, EASYCLAD® and the new CUSTOMFLOW™ cladding solution

The Goodna State School building project by arkLAB Architecture in Brisbane, combines a visually-stunning design with practicality and the low maintenance benefits which are critical for public buildings.

In Mackay, Bold Architecture + Interior Design’s Mercy College library redevelopment saw the transformation of a single storey building into double storey structure, in pursuit of a building that would act as the heart and soul of a greater ‘student city’.

The winner of the Residential category in Bermagui, New South Wales, showcased the ‘Blue Wren’ home which saw Get Smart Constructions design and build on a challenging, steep triangular block while also taking into account the sensitivities of a pristine coastal environment.

The student category – now in its second year – was open to all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities as well as recent graduates.

Student winner, Sandra from Granville TAFE, in her work titled ‘Chatterbox House’, took styling cues from the Sydney Opera House as well as an origami chatterbox, to create stunning rooflines for her project.

Since the inaugural Inspirations Design Awards in 2018, the number and quality of the submissions received by Lysaght continues to grow, according to Lysaght Product and Brand Manager, Blake Tasker.
