Tower House wins LYSAGHT Inspirations Design Awards

Tower House by Austin Maynard Architects has won the Major Award in the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards, the program that celebrates outstanding Australian architectural work incorporating LYSAGHT® steel building products.

As part of the prize, the two directors at Austin Maynard Architects will be jetting off to Amsterdam to attend the 2018 World Architecture Festival in November. In addition, the winning project is now set to feature in the next edition of Lysaght’s product and design portfolio - Build On Inspiration.

Presented with the opportunity to renovate and extend an existing mid-century Melbourne bungalow, the architects gave the project a modernist twist and came up with a village of mini towers, covered with shingle and LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® cladding in COLORBOND® steel Surfmist®.

Designed for a couple with two young sons, the dwelling successfully meets the brief of bringing together community, art and nature. The smooth lines of the LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® cladding contrast effectively with the less uniform shingle and brighten the overall residence.

“Tower House epitomises the best of contemporary Australian design. Lysaght is delighted to be able to highlight this architectural achievement and to encourage work of this quality. We congratulate Austin Maynard Architects and look forward to seeing more of their projects featuring LYSAGHT® products,” said Blake Tasker, Lysaght Product & Brand Manager.

It was good cheer all round for Austin Maynard Architects which, apart from taking out the Major Award, also won in the ZENITH™ category.

Each of these category winners receives a $2,000 cash prize, plus their winning projects will feature in the upcoming edition of Lysaght’s product and design portfolio - Build On Inspiration.

“In this, the inaugural year of Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards, we were inundated with nominations of the highest quality. My congratulations go, not just to the four winners, but to all the architects, designers and building owners who took part,” said Blake
